TARA TENG
Tara Teng is a human rights activist and a modern-day slavery abolitionist. Her heartbeat and passion is to see all people, regardless of nationality, culture, gender, lifestyle or belief, thrive in freedom, truth and abundance. Born in Nanaimo, BC and raised on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Tara stands as a voice for the voiceless, promoting justice and equality for all people.
Currently studying a Bachelor’s of Education at Trinity Western University with a specialization in Secondary school English and Spanish, Tara seeks to use education as a tool to break the cycle of poverty and empower students to create a brighter future. She has taught in classrooms throughout Canada and Guatemala, served children in the project buildings of Brooklyn, NYC, and regularly works with the homeless of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, BC.
In July 2010, Tara was crowned Miss British Columbia 2010-2011 and has been using her title to give back to others. Tara works tirelessly to raise awareness on issues of social justice and maintains a focus on ending exploitation of children and youth internationally. Currently, she is organizing Freedom Week: March 6-13, 2011, an awareness campaign of events that will speak out against the violence and exploitation of human trafficking. Partnering with many charities, Tara is a champion for the Dalit Freedom Network and the International Justice Mission, speaking out against racial oppression and social injustice.
In November 2010, Tara was nominated as one of the Globe and Mail’s Top 25 Transformational Canadians due to her extensive advocacy work. If she is given the honor of bearing the crown of Miss Canada, Tara plans on continuing her journey of advocacy for justice and freedom, until the whole world hears.
Tara Teng est une militante des droits humains et de l'abolisation de l'esclavage . Sa raison de vivre et sa passion est de voir toutes les personnes, indépendamment de leur nationalité, leur culture,leur sexe, leur mode de vie ou de leur conviction, vivre de prospérité dans la liberté, la vérité et l'abondance. Né à Nanaimo, en Colombie-Britannique elle à grandi sur Sunshine Coast de la Colombie-Britannique, Tara se présente comme une voix pour les sans voix, promouvant la justice et l'égalité pour tous.
Elle étudie actuellement au baccalauréat en éducation de l'Université Trinity Western, avec une spécialisation de l'anglaise et l'espagnole pour les élèves au secondaire, Tara cherche à utiliser l'éducation comme un outil pour briser le cycle de la pauvreté et permettre aux étudiants de créer un avenir meilleur. Elle a enseigné dans les classes à travers le Canada et le Guatemala,à servie les enfants dans les bâtiments du projet de Brooklyn, New York, et travaille régulièrement avec les sans-abri du Downtown Eastside de Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique.
En Juillet 2010, Tara a été couronnée Miss Colombie-Britannique 2010 - 2011 et a été l'aide de son titre de redonner aux autres. Tara travaille sans relâche à sensibiliser le public sur les questions de justice sociale et se concentre sur la fin à l'exploitation des enfants et des jeunes au niveau international. Actuellement, elle organise la liberté de la Semaine: 6-13 Mars 2011, une campagne de sensibilisation des événements qui vont se prononcer contre la violence et l'exploitation des êtres humains. En partenariat avec de nombreuses organisations caritatives, Tara est un champion pour le Réseau Dalit Freedom et l'International Justice Mission, se prononçant contre l'oppression raciale et l'injustice sociale.
En Novembre 2010, Tara a été nominée comme l'une du Globe and Mail Le top 25 Canadiens de transformation en raison de son vaste travail de plaidoyer. Si elle est donnée l'honneur de porter la couronne de Miss Canada, Tara entend poursuivre son voyage de plaidoyer pour la justice et la liberté, jusqu'à ce que le monde entier entende.
